Data & Code Sharing Policies

At OpenMed Research, we believe that scientific findings are most impactful when they are transparent and reproducible. We encourage all authors to share their data and code alongside their article to support the scientific community and accelerate discovery.

Data Availability Statement (Required for All Articles)

Each manuscript must include a Data Availability Statement that clearly outlines:

  • Whether and where the dataset can be accessed
  • Repository name and persistent identifiers (e.g., DOI)
  • Any licensing, embargo, or access restrictions
  • Contact details if data access is restricted

Example: “The datasets generated during this study are available in the Dryad repository, [DOI]. Restrictions apply to sensitive data and can be accessed upon reasonable request from the corresponding author.”

Recommended Data Repositories
Discipline or Data Type Suggested Repositories
Clinical Trials
ClinicalTrials.gov, WHO ICTRP, ISRCTN
Genomics / Proteomics
GEO (NCBI), ArrayExpress, PRIDE
Medical Imaging
The Cancer Imaging Archive, OpenNeuro
General Science & Health Data
Dryad, Figshare, Zenodo, Harvard Dataverse
Code and Scripts
GitHub (with DOI via Zenodo), GitLab, Code Ocean
Qualitative / Survey Data
ICPSR, UK Data Service, Qualitative Data Repository (QDR)

We support repositories that provide persistent identifiers, open licenses, and community governance.

Code Sharing Policy

If your research involves software, scripts, or analytical tools:

  • Share your code on a public repository like GitHub or GitLab
  • Link the repository in your manuscript
  • Include a Code Availability Statement
  • Apply an open-source license (e.g., MIT, Apache, GNU GPL)

Example Statement: “All code used for statistical analysis in this study is available at [GitHub URL] under the MIT license.”

Privacy, Consent, and Sensitive Data

If your dataset includes personally identifiable or protected health information, you must:

  • Provide anonymized datasets when possible
  • Obtain participant consent for data sharing
  • Specify controlled access protocols, if applicable
